1. INTRODUCTION
ANTHEM BIOSCIENCES LIMITED (hereinafter referred to as “Anthem”/“Company”), incorporated in Bangalore on 13th June 2006 under the provisions of Companies Act, 1956, having CIN: L24233KA2006PTC039703, is a Contract Development & Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) providing discovery biology services, synthetic chemical research and analysis, chemical synthesis, manufacturing of specialty chemical products, analytical method development, and related services. Over the years, Company has forward integrated into contract manufacturing with a view to benefit from the synergies arising out of its involvement in the development of the product.
Anthem offers a whole gamut of services, independently as well as collaboratively, dedicated to enabling and sustaining global research efforts in the discovery of new compounds by pharmaceutical, biotechnology, specialty chemicals, agriculture chemicals and material science companies worldwide.
2. OBJECTIVE
Anthem is committed to respecting the human rights of its employees, communities and those affected by its operations, wherever it does its business, including our business partners, vendors, contractors, and suppliers. Therefore, in the management of its businesses and operations, Company strives to uphold the spirit of human rights, as enshrined in the Constitution of India, existing international standards, and the applicable laws of the country of operations.
We are committed to protect the fundamental human rights and have actualized the principles in letter and spirit enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP) which include processes for respecting, protecting, and remediating human rights issues. In addition, this policy is also aligned with the fundamental conventions identified by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and principles of National Guidelines on Responsible Business Conduct (NGRBC) of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, India.
3. APPLICABILITY
This policy is applicable to all our stakeholders including employees or workers, (permanent and other than permanent) consultants and trainees of Anthem and its subsidiaries; as well as business partners (suppliers, contractors, healthcare partners, joint venture partners, channel partners), to uphold and observe these values and abide by the principles outlined in the Policy.
4. PRINCIPLES
Company is committed to conducting business in an ethical and responsible manner. This includes respecting internationally recognized human rights throughout our operations. Human rights are fundamental rights and freedoms that all people are entitled to, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. These principles require all employees around the world to act with fair and lawful conduct toward other employees, colleagues, business partners and local communities.
The important principles of Company’s policy on Human Rights are mentioned below:
1. PROHIBITION OF CHILD LABOUR, FORCED LABOUR, AND SLAVERY:
Company prohibits and has zero tolerance towards engagement of child labour, forced labour, slavery, and any form of human trafficking. Company is committed to ensuring that no instance of child labour, forced labour, slavery or human trafficking occurs in any of its operations and establishments, and supply chain. Company does not engage any individual for work who is less than 18 years of age.
Company has established robust process to monitor and ensure non-engagement of an individual below 18 years for work. Company will not make use of slave, forced or compulsory labour in any form. The employees are made fully aware of the terms and conditions relating to employment prior to recruitment/ at the time of interview. Company does not withhold any part of any employee’s wages, benefits, documents or property to force such employee to continue working for Company.
Company prohibits associated vendors, contractors, and suppliers from engaging child and/or forced labour, slavery, or any form of human trafficking. Company also expects them to have and uphold similar standards and abide by the domestic laws in the countries wherein they operate. Any violation of these principle by them shall result in discontinuation of business association with Company.
2. FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION
Company is committed to providing a positive work environment for the employees and to being a preferred employer. Company has a long and rich history of treating its employees with dignity and respect, with providing competitive compensation and benefits, having open and honest communications and providing an open door policy that ensures that employees can bring up issues without fear and retaliation. Company respect employee’s rights to associate freely in accordance with local laws, we also believe our employees, our company and our customers are best served when managers and workers deal openly and directly with each other regarding working conditions without fear or reprisal, intimidation or harassment.
3. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY, NON – DISCRIMINATION, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION:
We ensure that our employees and workers are treated with dignity, respect, and fairness, and are not subject to harassment, discrimination or inhumane treatment at the time of hiring, providing compensation, imparting training, promotion, termination or retirement on account of gender, sex, sexual orientation, race, religion, caste, ethnicity, nationality, age, disability, HIV status, birth, family responsibilities, marital status, political opinions, union membership and family status. We are committed to have a working culture that is free from any prejudice, bias, physical or mental harassment. Anthem has a zero-tolerance approach, towards discrimination across our operations and value chain. Company encourages all employees and individuals who provide services in our workplace to report instances of discrimination, whether personally experienced or observed in the workplace, at any level. Individuals should promptly report violations. Any allegations made in these matters are handled critically and confidentially. Violation of these cardinal principle may result in disciplinary actions which include termination, loss of pay, as well as other legal proceedings.
4. WORKING HOURS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Company compensates employees competitively relative to the industry and local labour market, and in accordance with right to fair compensation. We work to ensure full compliance with applicable wage, work hours, overtime and benefits laws. We believe that providing a flexible work culture helps us retain talent and keeps our employees motivated and engaged.
5. SAFE AND HEALTHY WORKPLACE:
Company is committed to maintaining a workplace that is free from violence, harassment, intimidation and other unsafe or disruptive conditions for all. The safety and health of our employees is of paramount importance. Our policy is to provide a safe and healthy workplace and comply with applicable safety and health laws and regulations, as well as internal requirements. Company works to provide and maintain a safe, healthy and productive workplace, in consultation with our employees, by addressing and remediating identified risks of accidents, injury, and health impacts. We encourage them to report any unsafe or hazardous conditions noticed in the workplace to the management. We are committed to protect the safety, health and well-being of our stakeholders through EHS management systems and safety requirements for our value chain partners. We pursue sustainable business practices and work towards continuous improvement in our EHS performance, year-on-year. We record and investigate all incidents, and accordingly train employees and workers on workplace-related safety hazards, associated risks and measures required to mitigate these risks.
6. PREVENTION OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT
Company is committed to protect the employees from sexual harassment and ensures the compliance with The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. Company educates its employees (permanent and other than permanent) about prevention of sexual harassment at workplace by organizing various workshops. Company recognizes that protection of employees against sexual harassment and the right to work with dignity are universally recognized human rights by international conventions. Company shall deal expeditiously and fairly as per its policy for prevention of Sexual Harassment.
7. COMMUNITY AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
We are committed to engaging with communities in a manner that respects the rights and dignity of all people in the geographies we operate in, and otherwise take steps to prevent, reduce and mitigate impact on communities due to our business operations. We continue to support several community welfare, healthcare, environment and educational activities, essentially in communities surrounding Company’s factories by providing healthcare education, improvement of community infrastructure. We also respect the rights of indigenous people, and ensure all communities are part of our welfare and engagement programs.
8. TRANSPARENCY
Company strives to have a workplace in which open, transparent and honest communications are valued and respected. Communication and transparency are the only means by which the employees can exchange ideas, information, communication, etc. Therefore, Company is committed to promoting transparency and open communication within the organization.
9. GRIEVANCE MECHANISM
Company believes that employees should have the opportunity to raise and achieve resolution by following a fair and prompt grievance process, without fear of retaliation. Company provides a grievance mechanism for employees to raise occupational concerns. This mechanism is accessible, understandable, and transparent to employees. Issues raised are dealt promptly, without any reprisal. Employees can raise their grievances by writing a mail to grievances@anthembio.com. Contract employees can make use of the Grievance Box kept at various locations within the Company to raise their grievances.
10. WORKPLACE SECURITY
We are committed to maintaining a safe work environment that is free from violence, harassment, intimidation and other unsafe or disruptive conditions, caused due to internal and external threats. Adequate security arrangements for employees are provided as needed and are maintained with respect for employee privacy and dignity, in accordance with the guidelines on Security and Human Rights.
11. AWARENESS PROGRAMME AND DUE DILIGENCE
Company shall run a Human Rights awareness program/trainings on a regular basis, to educate employees/workers on their rights. Our employees/workers must also take equal responsibility to be aware about this policy and their rights, by attending, reading, and participating in all trainings on this matter. Company shall also undertake due diligence on Human Rights on a regular interval to identify, prevent and mitigate adverse human rights issues.
5. REVIEW
This Policy will be reviewed periodically once every 3 (three) years.
6. PUBLICATION OF THE POLICY
This Policy is accessible on company’s intranet and website.
7. EFFECTIVE DATE
This Policy shall come into force from the date of its approval by the board of Company. This Policy shall revoke and replace any and all previous policies and understandings that are inconsistent with those contained herein. The Committee shall amend this Policy as necessary or appropriate on the approval of Board. Once approved by the Board, the Committee shall thereafter apprise all the major stakeholders and provide them with a copy of the approved new version.

This policy has been approved by the Management of the Company on 1st Sep, 2023 and shall be effective from 1st Sep, 2023.
